3:00pm - 4:00pm Building a Culture of Consent in LGBT Tech - There’s No App for That

(QC Lounge)

Speaker: Jo Langford, M.A.

Facilitated conversation around consent, boundaries, the roles we assume in flirting, sexual attraction, and courtship, as well as how these play out differently in straight and queer cultures.

  • How do queer and straight social norms and concepts of boundaries, negotiation, and consent differ? How do these present differently online and in-person?
  • What are the queer equivalents of the concepts of rape culture, toxic masculinity and #MeToo? And how do these play out in gay, trans, and cross-culture interactions?
  • Given that queer culture gets so many other things “right,” what is queer culture’s responsibility in terms of the bigger picture of creating a culture of responsibility, respect, and consent?
